Using Social Media As Authors

Using social media as authors can feel like a daunting task. We want to reach more ideal readers with our message and book.

We want to make a bigger and greater impact. Building and expanding our author platform (including our presence on the appropriate social medial platforms) is critical to being successful with these

Yet many of us are not sure where to start.with some of the social media platforms. If your ideal readers and ideal clients are on Twitter, read on to learn how to get started there.

Getting started with Twitter

If we want to grow a following, guess what we need to do? Follow people, of course.

Just last week one of my mentors hosted a training via Zoom where she showed us the many ways she is using Twitter to do just that. Her focus on growing her following as she writes her next book is not only admirable but very smart.

As someone who has not paid much attention to Twitter, I was amazed at how powerful it can be. It can be used not only share information but to connect and expand our reach.

One way to streamline our efforts on Twitter is to set up lists. Lists are groups of people that you share interests with. Set up the lists and start connecting!

For example, my mentor is following some of the top podcasters of shows where she wants to be a guest when her book comes out. She has a list called “podcast hosts” and adds to it regularly. Some of these hosts are luminaries whose mission and vision are tied closely to hers. She is actively nurturing those relationships to make this happen. All of us could do the same.
