How to Create an Ebook: 3 Secrets for Success for Branding, Visibility, and Business Building Success
Many speakers, coaches, and consultants have asked about how to create an ebook (an electronic book hosted on the internet). They realize that having a book is vital to positioning ourselves and our businesses. An ebook provides much more depth of information than a blog post, yet is shorter than a print book. It is a great place to start, since it is faster to create and produce than a full print book.
Last night at our local Non-Fiction Author Association meeting, we discussed the creation of short ebooks as one way to develop a longer print book. This certainly is one path for becominga published author. E-books can be a real boon to your branding both yourself and your business….and they are a key marketing strategy for getting clients, if done well.
So what constitutes a great Ebook that moves your business forward to increase visibility, attract clients, and increase revenue?
Here are 3 secrets for how to create an Ebook that is successful as both a marketing strategy and business building asset.
Make sure it is professionally done so it has a professional impact. Due to their length and depth of information on a single topic, the graphical and visual components are critical to sustain reader engagement. Think about the last Ebook you just could’t put down. Chances are it had an eye-catching cover and perhaps had great images and graphics sprinkled throughout. It also was edited professionally. It was in a format that not only flowed smoothly but was easy on the eye. These are not areas to rush or scrimp on. Investing to get professional help is critical. We do indeed just a book by its cover!
Focus on an evergreen (ever-relevant) topic. The topic for your Ebook should be relevant not only today but further down the road. While some facets may change over time, the core concepts and ideas you share will be just as useful next year, 5 years, and even 10 years from now as they are now. Avoid writing about topics of fleeting interest (new trends, new platforms, etc.). Taking this approach will not yield the results you want longer term. Ideally your Ebook can be shared over a long period of time to generate interest, discussions, referrals, and new business.
Create a library of Ebooks. Your ideal clients have multiple challenges and there may be multiple ways to solve them. You can create a series of Ebooks, all branded similarly, that share your solution and lead your readers to further engage with you. If your goal is to create a print book, use the Ebook series strategically as a way to capture all the content for the print book
There’s no doubt that e-books are a powerful marketing tool to build both your brand and business. By demonstrating your expertise and knowledge, they provide real value to your ideal clients and prospects and can lead them directly to you for more. Creating a library of them can not only define your brand as an authority in your field but serve as the foundation for a print book in the not-so-distant future.
Know that writing that first Ebook (or print book) is the next step for building your credibility and visibility to your market and not sure how to start?
